Havenfeesten

Dit pinksterweekend zijn de havenfeesten in ons dorp. Een artikel in het plaatselijke sufferdje leert ons dat de havenfeesten sinds 1990 worden georganiseerd. In dat jaar vierde de lokale bevolking de ontzetting van Breda tijdens de tachtigjarige oorlog, precies 400 jaar geleden. Hierin schijnt de Turfschipper Adriaan van Bergen een belangrijke rol te hebben gespeeld, dus een grote lokale held! Zover een stukje geschiedenis, nu weer terug naar vandaag :D
Het is een aardig feestje, met wat marktkraampjes, veel folklore, de notoire kermisatrracties, maar ook demonstraties van de circusschool. Dat laatste vinden wij zonder twijfel het leukst. Leeftijdgenootjes van de jongens doen allerlei circusacts: jongleren met ballen en kegels, rijden op eenwielers, acrobatische acts, lopen op reuzeballen en het rijden op clownsfietsjes. Het publiek mag ook een poging wagen op de mini fietsjes. Dat laten J en T zich geen twee keer zeggen....


This Ascension Day weekend our hometown is celebrating it's big harborparty. An article in the local newspaper tells us these festivities are introduced in 1990. Because of the 400 year anniversary of the ending of the occupation of Breda during the 80 year war. Captain Adriaan van Bergen and his peatship played a major role in this event so considered a local hero! So far history, let's go back to today :D
There's a nice party going on, with some arts and crafts stalls, lots of folklore, the usual fairground attractions, but also an interesting demonstration of a local circusschool. Our absolute favorite part of the day. Peers of the boys are performing all kinds of circus acts: juggling with balls and pins, riding uni cycles, acrobatic acts, walking on giant balls en riding clown bikes. The audience is in for it too, they can try out the mini cycles. J and T are off and trying....
