Streethockey

Het was een heerlijk zonnige dag vandaag.

De kinderen zijn eerst lekker met zijn drietjes en de hond gek aan het doen in de achtertuin. En dan…gaan ze een kijkje nemen in het vernieuwde speeltuintje vlak bij ons huis! Ik val om van verbazing, want normaal willen ze daar nooit heen, terwijl ik zo vaak zeg, ga daar eens kijken om wat buurtkinderen te leren kennen. Ze willen er allebei niet aan.

Gelukkig hebben ze wel genoeg vriendjes van school, maar aangezien school in een andere wijk ligt, spelen ze in het weekend het meeste met elkaar. In het speeltuintje zijn genoeg andere kids aan het spelen. Even later komen ze allebei terug rennen.

Ik kijk vertwijfeld…Mam, we komen onze skeelers halen! We gaan ‘streethockeyen’. Een nieuw verworven vriendje vertelt me ‘da’s Engels’. Ik kan een glimlach niet onderdrukken. Mijn hart zingt. Heerlijk aansluiting met jongetjes in de straat.

Als je maar geduld hebt, komt het allemaal wel =)

It’s been a nice and sunny day today.

The kids are playing in our backyard together with the dog. And all of a sudden....they decide to take a look at the renovated playground across our street! I’m completely surprised, because normally they never want to go there. And I am telling them often, why don’t you go there to meet some kids in the neighborhood. They both decline.

They do have several friends from school, but school is in another subdivision, so on the weekends they usually just play with one another. At the playground there are plenty of other kids. Just a little later I see both of them running home again.

I am in doubt....but then they say: Mom, we need our skeelers! We’re going to play ‘streethockey’. A newly met friend explains to me ‘that’s English’! I can’t hide a smile. I am so happy. Finally they’ve connected with some boys in our street.

Once again, just be patient and it will all work out =)
