Eerste zeil WEDSTRIJD

Stralend krijgen ze even later hun medailles omgehangen.

Their final sailing lesson ends with a *true* race. Jochem is totally in for it. Not that strange, considering he thinks of life as a never ending race ;-)

Thijmen is a bit nervous. Asking lots of questions and thinks the whole thing is pretty exciting. We just wait and see.

A couple of kids don’t want to participate. But the boys will. They’re ready. Even Thijmen is sure of it. For me by that he has won the majority of the race. Because what does one know about reading maps for instance when 8 years old.

What’s the first buoy? And what color is the next? And after that? As someone with a poorly developed sense of direction, I feel their anxiety. Would be challenging for me as well =)

But they’re doing great. Sail both races according the rules. Never miss one buoy [it does help that one of the instructors, in the rescue boat, shows them the laps in advance]. I’m so proud when they get their medals later on.

They’re so thrilled with both certificate and medal. But the most fun reward is the ‘Old Geezer’s Race’. When the parents jump in the tiny boats to race each other. The kids are yelling until they’re hoarse. And the parents who are not racing [hey someone has to watch the little ones and take pictures ;-)] mainly laugh their heads off. It sure was just another perfect day.
